I always look forward to the return of the Juncos in the spring, even as I'm a little bit sad to see them as they fly away in the fall. Here, I used the Aurora HDR vignette slider to... make a little bit of a vignette around the picture. Thanks for stopping by and looking at my pictures! :)

Sparrow on a Tree Branch (Graphic Novel filter)

This picture started out somewhat awful. It wasn't my worst picture, but it had that nasty purple fringe that I sometimes get when I have a bright sky in the background of the image. Well, when you want to get rid of a nasty fringe... one option is to take out the color. I processed my image first in AuroraHDR. I then ran it through Photoshop's Graphic Novel filter. I used the Hard Edges setting, but I didn't like it because it didn't pick up enough of the detail on the bird. When I darkened it, however, I didn't like that either (it made a rather dark mess of things). So, I took the lightest version of the image and layered in gradually darkening versions of the same image and... voila! Today's photo. Thanks for stopping by and looking at my pictures! :)

We are nowhere near that time of the year when the robins return (and then, it's supposed to snow on the robins I think three times after they return for winter to officially be over,) but... I'm looking forward to it already. Thanks for stopping by and looking at my pictures! :)

Crab Apples 2 (AuroraHDR, Graphic Novel filter)

One of my favorite times of the year is when the crab apple tree blossoms, sometime between May and June for about a week (sometimes more, sometimes less). I processed this picture from several years ago in several different ways to see the comparisons. I like the original and the AuroraHDR images before I edited them with Photoshop. I also like the Graphic Novel filter version, especially the part with the flowers in the middle. (The bokeh around the edges looks cool in color, not so much in black and white.) I like the "pose" on these European Starlings, but... I wasn't so impressed with the weirdness in the grass. My favorite of today's photos is... no surprise, the black and white graphic novel filter. Thanks for stopping by and looking at my pictures! :)

Sparrow in the Tree (AuroraHDR, Graphic Novel filter)

This picture wasn't really a good picture at all, which you can see when looking at the image up close. I decided to give it a try with the Graphic Novel filter, to see if it could be somewhat improved. I'm not sure that the image works at all in any of the color versions, but I thought that the black and white graphic novel filter turned out ok. Bluebird in the Branches (AuroraHDR, Graphic Novel filter)

I like bluebirds, probably because blue is one of my favorite colors, and I like the particular shade of blue that you see in the bird. Oddly enough, my favorite edit of today's image is the black and white graphic novel filter, because I like how the leaves turned out in the branches next to the bird.
