Chipping Sparrow in a Shadow (Graphic Novel filter)

I liked the pose on this chipping sparrow. The problem was, as you see in the first image below, the bird has a nice shadow running right down the middle of it.

Running the image through AuroraHDR with a bright preset, and the taking it over to the Graphic Novel filter on Photoshop Elements, the programs did a nice job of minimizing the shadow.

However, when I put the color back in...

Chickadee (in a Tree) (again, but a different Chickadee) (Graphic Novel filter)

I am a pack rat. I keep lots of things that I should simply throw away. I have thousands of technically and compositionally flawed images that I should have deleted a long time ago. Except that I saved them, figuring that maybe some day I might do something with them, maybe find a way to fix them.

Hence my experiments with the Dry Brush filter, the Stamp filter, and lately, the Graphic Novel filter.

The images are still flawed, but sometimes, with a little work, I do manage to bring out something that I think is ok, and sometimes even rather nice. Today's post has another one of those images.

Thrush in Shadow (Graphic Novel filter)

This thrush was really dark and really badly hidden in a shadow.

I could see the bird a little bit better after processing it in AuroraHDR and running that image through Photoshop Elements' Graphic Novel filter.

And here is the colorized version.

Yesterday's... Crow? (Graphic Novel filter)

I continued going through the images in my files of the bird that was featured in yesterday's post. I had processed one back in 2015, which I thought was much clearer, so I thought that I would try it again (now, with AuroraHDR) and see if I could improve upon the original image. I'm not sure I succeeded.

I think I'm pretty sure now, however, that it's a crow. Thanks for stopping by and looking at my pictures! :)

I think it's a Raven. Maybe a Crow? (Graphic Novel filter)

The first step in being able to identify whether that black bird is a raven or a crow is to pick some sort of identifiable features out of that black blob of bird in your photo.

Here is the Graphic Novel version of the above image. The bird's features are a little more clearly defined in this photo. From the smooth rounded shape of the head, I'm leaning toward thinking this is a crow?

Thrush (Graphic Novel filter)

I cropped a rather dark image of a thrush (bird).

I processed it with AuroraHDR. I ran the original image above through Photoshop Elements' Graphic Novel filter.

And then I layered the AuroraHDR image into the one above.
