Beggars and Street Characters, 1516. Zhou Chen (Squirrel Entertainer Detail) (Graphic Novel filter)
This is another image edited from the Cleveland Museum of Art.
This particular image is a detail from a much longer scroll image, entitled: "Beggars and Street Characters" by Zhou Chen. After yesterday's monkey image, I noticed this one with a man entertaining with a squirrel.

Squirrel Eating... Something (Graphic Novel filter)
This squirrel in my tree was eating... something. I couldn't tell what it was eating, because it was quite far away. So, I used my telephoto lens, brought the image up on my computer, and discovered that the squirrel was eating... something. Thanks for stopping by and looking at my pictures! :)

Colorful Squirrel Eating Seeds (AuroraHDR, Graphic Novel filter)
I processed this image in Aurora HDR, really pushing the color in the image, making the brown stand out next to the gray. The second image is the Graphic Novel filter version, where the squirrel looks just a little bit creepy; I think it's the eyes. Finally, I layered the color back in to the Graphic Novel filter, and the eyes came out a little bit less creepy. Thanks for stopping by and looking at my pictures! :)

Squirrel on the Deck (AuroraHDR, Graphic Novel filter)
The squirrel had just hopped up on the deck, looking around for the seeds that I had left out for the birds. I processed the image first with Aurora for HDR, then with the Graphic Novel filter in Photoshop Elements. Thanks for stopping by and looking at my pictures! :)

Squirrel, Unusual Pose (Graphic Novel filter)
My camera caught the squirrel, just as it was about to move. The pose in which it caught the squirrel was one of those gestures, that says something like - "I'm giving a speech," or as though it's putting its hand on its heart, or something like that. What it really was thinking about was trying to infiltrate the bird feeder that was located directly underneath of it....

Squirrel on the Deck Eating Sunflower Seeds
The only thing I might have added is that the squirrel is eyeing me, warily. Thanks for stopping by!

Graphic Novel Squirrel
So, the title of this post makes it sound like I've got some sort of super hero squirrel, which... I don't. But I did find a way to make a really cool effect. First, I made the very dark black and white graphic novel filtered image from the normal looking color image below. Then, I layered the colored version into the BW graphic novel filtered version at 40% opacity, and the image came out so in certain colors. I'm not quite sure how this happened, but it is kind of a cool effect, something with which I may keep tinkering in the future. Thanks for stopping by and looking at my pictures! :)

When Someone Refuses to Smile for the Camera (Squirrel, Graphic Novel filter)
I guess this is the picture you get when the squirrel refuses to show its face. Thanks for stopping by!

Squirrel in Motion (Graphic Novel filter)
My "squirrel in motion" picture here was nothing really special. In many ways, this is a technically imperfect image. (Having the squirrel in better focus would have made the background blurring cool, but with everything blurry...) Still, I liked the pose that I caught here, which reminded me something of a kangaroo. After processing the image for HDR, I also passed it through Photoshop's Graphic Novel filter. Thanks for stopping by!

Squirrel Tail Mohawk (Graphic Novel filter)
The way this squirrel's tail wrapped back up its body and tufts up over its head reminds me of the 'mohawk' style haircut. This is one of my older pictures, processed here with the graphic novel filter (which I like better than the original image, in this case.) Below are both the black and white and the colorized graphic novel versions of this image. Thanks for stopping by!

Black Squirrel (Stamp Filter)
With today's post, I included both the black and white and the colorized version of this image. In the black and white, I like how the squirrel's tail blends in with the grass in this stamp filtered image. Aside from the darker shading, you can't really tell in the bw image that it's a black squirrel (at least, not like you can see it in the colorized version.) Thanks for stopping by!

Squirrel on the Feeder (Stamp Filter)
For something just a little bit different, I processed today's image through Photomatix. (The stamp filter images in previous posts had been processed by layering them together in Photoshop. For today's image, I took varying stamp filter levels from darkest to lightest and merged them together on Photomatix, processing the image in HDR.) The effect is an interesting black-and-white, reminding me of something from a newspaper photo (back from before everyone printed them in color...)
The subject, the squirrel on the feeder, has been rather entertaining to watch. The feeder is squirrel proof, in that the squirrel can't get into the holes. (If the squirrel lands on the bird perch its weight closes little doors behind the holes. The squirrels don't usually land on the perch, they seem to fall right to the ground.) What the squirrels have figured out, however, as they fall to the ground - is that even though they can't get into the holes, if they give the feeder enough of a bump or a push, a handful of seeds will fall out. (What do they say about necessity being the mother of invention?)

Black Squirrel Eating Seeds in the Snow (Dry Brush Filter)
The squirrels have found a rather clever way to get to the seed in my bird feeder. I suspect that they are trying to get the top off (which they haven't so far), but when they jump down onto the feeder, while their weight closes the doors, they manager to swing the feeder enough to launch some of the seed out onto the ground. That, and the nuthatches help the squirrels out by going through and tossing three seeds for every one they keep (roughly). Hmmm...
